màmawi together gathers on the unceded and unsurrendered lands of the Algonquin Nation. We recognize historical claim of these original inhabitants and commit to working in solidarity with Indigenous people toward a goal of reconciliation and decolonization.

Anti-racism, anti-discrimination policy

The structures that sustain Màmawi Together (MT) are characterized by anti-oppression, anti-racism and inclusivity. The dominant society, as MT perceives it, is one of patriarchy, racism and other forms of systemic oppressions that are based on factors such as age, sexual orientation, class, religion, disability, gender self-identification, colour, place of and ethnic origin, citizenship, political affiliation, marital status, family status, life experiences and physical appearance.

MT also perceives that the intricacies of societal power relationships, such as the ways in which diverse oppressions intersect and interconnect, create disparities that negatively impact the capacity to fulfill the unique needs of various groups of Indigenous peoples and others affected.

  • MT acknowledges the existence of racism, oppression and exclusion; it takes responsibility for learning how to make, and encourage, changes that reduce these oppressions. It incorporates principles of anti-racism, anti-oppression and inclusivity in all educational and training offerings that involve the grassroots community/individuals, staff and all those with whom it interacts.

  • MT, as an anti-racist organization, does not accept the status quo regarding racism, oppression and exclusion; it challenges oppressive power relationships, and its efforts reflect active eradication of racism, oppression and exclusion.

  • MT is diligent in ensuring that principles of inclusivity, anti-racism and anti-oppression are reflected in its organizational activities.

  • MT is committed to a proactive organizational philosophy in the fight against racism, exclusion and oppression; this philosophy is reflected both within the organization, and externally to those with whom it works.

  • All MT activities are communicated in ways that reflect anti-racism, anti-oppression and inclusion.

  • MT encourages board members, staff, consultants and grassroots communities/individuals to follow these principles or those that are congruent to these principles.
